Of the many things I sometimes want to write about politics, I have for some time realized that being just another voice, fighting for a tribe, does little good for anyone. I would like to write about ideas, but ideas are not in fashion in politics now. Ideas take a long time to explain and make arguments for, and are getting crowded out by the simpler and bigger fight… tribe. Today, a brilliant opinion was just published in the New York times that sums up and clarifies much of what we are dealing with these days. It is written by David Brooks, who is a longtime analyst of politics and social sciences. David Brooks lists himself as a conservative, which I generally am not, but his ideas are extremely sound and he is not very much about tribe.
This is a link to a worthwhile summary of our predicament and the dynamics of tribal resentment.

Although this is an interesting article, I hate that they put everyone in a box! I’m not a box kind of guy! 😉
