People who have had some time to grapple with it are usually not so afraid of death, rather, they fear feeling insignificant, lack of a legacy, or that they have not made any a lasting contribution. I have noticed this myself and have recently heard it from someone else who has intimate knowledge of the subject.
Being in a web of friends and people who know you, and respect you, what you have done, this makes you feel significant. It makes you feel like you might have made a contribution.
Today was a day of this.
I’m glad you feel significant today. I hope you do every day from here on because you most definitely are.

I don’t know that we are the best judge of our own contributions. Sometimes the contributions we make are not apparent to us, sometimes they are not even intended , but they are real and lasting in the lives of others. Your blog is one of those things. It has had an impact that you won’t ever be able to fully realize or measure.

Kenton and I were/are loosely in your web and you made a difference to us. You invited him to see what cart racing is all about, and we saw you go after it. Wow! You cut, as you said, “Every piece of glass” in the stained glass windows in my church. I think of you every time I’m there. Many people enjoy that church, and the gorgeous windows make it special for them, rather than a windowless theater-type church.
