For some years, my family doctor has been Jim Avery.  Jim is a fellow adventure racer, the tall one with the big smile.  Jim’s style seems to be centered around minimal medical intervention with maximum wellness through exercise and healthy lifestyle.

My new ALS team is very good and I appreciate them.  Their approach is centered around prolonging life by keeping me safe and medicating anywhere it might be helpful.  It reminds me of fathers end of life care at 90 years old.  I don’t doubt their wisdom in life prolonging.  Every plan of care statement they give me tells me to stop riding/racing my bike, etc.

I miss my doctor.
